Service Description: This service is compliant with Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards and the data within is compatible with GeoSciML portrayal view for geoscience data. The source of the data in this service is the Bedrock Geology map database and consists of mapped geologic units throughout the state of New York.

Layers: Description: New York Geological Survey (NYGS), as part of the United States Geoscience Information Network (USGIN), is happy to provide a state geologic map. This Service was published by the Illinois Geological Survey (ILGS) as part of the USGIN initiative to “create and facilitate discovery and access to geoscience information provided by state and federal geological surveys of the United States”. This data was compiled by New York Geological Survey and is being served by the ILGS on an interim basis. Two layers are included in this service: 1. US-NY_ NYGS _250k_Geologic_Age is a compilation dataset containing geologic units covering the state of New York at a scale of 1:250,000; the table includes geologic name, description, lithology, and geologic history. The data in this layer is portrayed based on geologic age. 2. US-NY_NYGS_250k_Lithology is a compilation dataset containing geologic units covering the state of New York at a scale of 1:250,000; the table includes geologic name, description, lithology, and geologic history. The data in this layer is portrayed based on lithology.
